High range is dependent on vocal folds alone.
FICTION: Although you require a straight vocal fold edge to make a clear sound, hitting a high note relies on many muscles in dynamic movement to speak or sing. If the voice box is too tight...this dynamic balance is off and the brain and your inner singing ear are unable to produce a proper sound. Quick release of the right muscles and your voice is back on track. Don't practice to find your voice, get the right treatment and theraputic routine to maximize your athletic voice skills.
It's normal if it hurts to speak, sing or swallow.
FICTION: Today, prolonged throat pain is diagnosed as a musculoskeletal problem called Muscular Tension Dysphonia or Dysphagia. Conditions such as night-time teeth grinding, coughing, stress, improper breathing and lack of speech projection creates stiffness in the front neck causing pain.
After thyroid surgery my voice fatigue and pitch issues are recoverable. My voice or swallowing can be fixed!
FACT: The surgical procedure takes place near your pitch control muscles. If they tighten after surgery, simple home exercises and laryngeal release can make a big difference. Finding the right exercise for each individual is necessary and tension can be managed in just a few visits. Rehabilitate your voice...it's never too late!
Otolaryngologists can do in-office surgical procedures.
FACT: ENT specialists differ from many physicians in that they are trained in both medicine and surgery. Otolaryngologists do not need to refer patients to other physicians when ear, nose, throat, or head/neck surgery is needed and, therefore, can offer the most appropriate care for each individual patient. In some voice clinics today, many surgical procedures are done in-the-office. Tonsils, snoring, sleep apnea, chronic nasal congestion, nose bleeds, and many more laser procedures are completed quickly and effectively with no hospital wait.
